- CBC no longer airs NHL games. Saturday nights are now “Saturday Night Hockey” on Sportsnet, starting October 3, with Ron MacLean hosting.
- Sportsnet’s Monday Night Hockey streams only on Sportsnet+. Cable and satellite subscribers need a $12.99 a month add-on to see it.
- Prime Video now has Wednesday games, 27 of them this season, in English and French.
- TVA Sports holds the national French rights, including 32 Canadiens games, up from 22.
- Regional rights did not change. Your team is still on the same Sportsnet or TSN feed as last year.
Where do national NHL games air in Canada this season?
Rogers holds every national NHL game in Canada, in every language, from 2026-27 through 2037-38. The deal was announced in April 2025 and is worth about $11 billion. Rogers keeps most of the games on Sportsnet and sublicenses two packages, one to Amazon and one to Quebecor. That leaves four national windows:
| Night | Package | Where it airs | What you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saturday | Saturday Night Hockey, a weekly doubleheader with at least one Canadian team in each game | Sportsnet | A TV package with Sportsnet, or Sportsnet+ |
| Monday | Monday Night Hockey, hosted by David Amber, from October 5 | Sportsnet+ only | Sportsnet+, or a $12.99 add-on for TV subscribers (included for Rogers TV Plus and Ultimate) |
| Wednesday | Prime Wednesday Night Hockey, 27 regular-season games | Prime Video | A Prime membership, no extra fee |
| Various, in French | National French package, up to 350 regular-season games | TVA Sports | TVA Sports on TV, or TVA Sports Direct and illico+ |
The Saturday show keeps most of the faces people know. Elliotte Friedman, Kevin Bieksa and Colby Armstrong are back with MacLean. What is gone is the name and the free over-the-air broadcast. For about 74 years some NHL hockey was on CBC. This season there is no regular NHL broadcast on over-the-air TV in Canada at all, and a Sportsnet spokesperson said Saturday and playoff games will be exclusive to Sportsnet.
Prime’s first game of the season was Islanders at Maple Leafs on September 30. Among the Canadian teams, the Canadiens appear most on Prime with 7 games, then the Leafs with 6, and the Senators, Jets and Flames with 4 each.
Which channel has my team? Regional feeds for all seven Canadian clubs
Most of a team’s 84 games are not national. They air on a regional feed that only covers the team’s home territory, and those deals stayed the same this season.
| Team | English regional | French | Notes for 2026-27 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toronto Maple Leafs | Split between Sportsnet Ontario and TSN4 | None | 13 of 14 Monday games are Sportsnet+ only; 6 on Prime |
| Ottawa Senators | TSN5 | RDS | Two games in Düsseldorf, December 18 and 20 |
| Montreal Canadiens | TSN2 | RDS regional, TVA Sports national | 32 national French games on TVA; 7 on Prime |
| Winnipeg Jets | TSN3 | None | Heritage Classic against Montreal, October 25 |
| Edmonton Oilers | Sportsnet West | None | 14 of 84 games are streaming only |
| Calgary Flames | Sportsnet West | None | 9 Sportsnet+ only, 4 on Prime |
| Vancouver Canucks | Sportsnet Pacific | None | 33 national games, 9 of them Sportsnet+ Mondays |
If a Canadian team plays on a Saturday, look for the game on Saturday Night Hockey first. On a Monday it is on Sportsnet+, and on a Wednesday check Prime first. The rest of the week, go to the regional feed in the table.
The four Sportsnet regions and five TSN feeds, explained
Sportsnet runs four regional channels. Pacific covers British Columbia and Yukon. West covers the Prairies, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, although it does not carry Oilers or Flames games in Manitoba or northwestern Ontario. The Ontario feed covers most of that province, and East takes in eastern Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. Sportsnet One is a separate national channel that picks up extra games; the Flames alone have 11 there this season.
TSN numbers its feeds instead. TSN2 carries the Canadiens in English, TSN3 the Jets, TSN4 the Maple Leafs and TSN5 the Senators. The Jets territory on TSN3 is Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and part of northwestern Ontario.
This is why two friends in different provinces can both have “Sportsnet” and still see different games. The channel name is the same and the feed is not.
Why is my team’s game blacked out?
Regional rights belong to the broadcaster in the team’s home territory. When you buy an out-of-market package, such as Sportsnet+ Premium, games that are regional in your area are blacked out on that package and meant to be watched on the local feed. TSN+ works the same way: its regional games are only available inside the broadcast territory, and TSN+ is not sold outside Canada.
Sportsnet says it lifted 150 regional blackouts this season by moving more games to national windows, which is part of how it reaches more than 550 national games, about 35% more than last year. The detailed rules for which home-territory games stay blacked out on Sportsnet+ in 2026-27 have not been published in one place, so if a specific game matters, check the Sportsnet+ schedule for your postal code on the day.
A blackout on an official app is a rights rule set by the broadcaster, and it is applied by your postal code.
What the broadcasters charge in 2026-27
Prices went up on September 22. These are the numbers the broadcasters publish, in Canadian dollars before tax.
| Service | Price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Sportsnet+ Standard | $34.99 a month or $269.99 a year | Sportsnet’s national and regional games in your area, including Monday Night Hockey |
| Sportsnet+ Premium | $44.99 a month or $344.99 a year | Adds out-of-market games and a choice of home or away feed |
| TSN+ Standard | $24.99 a month | TSN1 to TSN5, with regional Leafs, Canadiens, Senators and Jets games in their territories |
| Monday Night Hockey add-on | $12.99 a month | For cable and satellite subscribers who already have Sportsnet |
| Prime Video | About $10 a month or $99 a year | Wednesday Night Hockey |
A Leafs fan is the worst case this season. The Leafs have 19 streaming-only games, 13 on Sportsnet+ Mondays and 6 on Prime, which is at least 23% of the schedule. Following every game means a TV package or Sportsnet+ for the Sportsnet Ontario games, TSN for the TSN4 games, the Monday add-on or Sportsnet+ for Mondays, and Prime for Wednesdays. An Oilers fan needs Sportsnet West, Sportsnet+ for 9 Mondays and Prime for 5 Wednesdays.
How NHL games look on IPTV
IPTV delivers the same broadcaster channels over your internet connection instead of a cable line, and the app sorts them into groups. For hockey there are three things worth setting up before the first game you care about.
First, find your feed. Open the Sports or Canada group and add Sportsnet, the right Sportsnet region, the right TSN number, TVA Sports and RDS to your favourites. In TiviMate you long-press a channel to add it, and our TiviMate guide shows how to build a favourites group.
Second, make sure the guide is right. The programme guide shows the matchup under each channel, so you can see at a glance which feed has your team tonight. If the times are off by an hour or three, the device time zone is wrong. That catches a lot of people in Canada, and the EPG guide explains the fix, including Newfoundland’s half-hour offset.
Third, give the stream a fair connection. For its own service Netflix recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p and 15 Mbps for 4K, which is a fair yardstick, and you want headroom on top of that if other people in the house are online during the game. The weak point is usually Wi-Fi at the TV. A Fire TV Stick or Android TV box on a network cable will hold a picture through a power play much better than one on a busy 2.4 GHz network.

In the playoffs, Prime gets two first-round series and one second-round series each year, and TVA Sports has six of the eight first-round series in French, all Canadiens playoff games, the conference finals and the Stanley Cup Final.
Frequently asked questions
Is Hockey Night in Canada still on CBC?
No. The Rogers sublicence with CBC ended after the 2025-26 playoffs. Saturday games are now Saturday Night Hockey on Sportsnet, starting October 3, 2026, with Ron MacLean hosting.
Why can’t I find Monday Night Hockey on TV?
This season Sportsnet streams Monday Night Hockey only on Sportsnet+. Cable and satellite customers with Sportsnet can add it for $12.99 a month, and Rogers TV Plus and Ultimate customers get it included.
Is Prime Video still Monday Night Hockey?
No. Prime moved to Wednesdays under a new 12-year sublicence with Rogers. It has 27 regular-season games in 2026-27, in English and French, included with a Prime membership.
What channel are the Maple Leafs on?
Regional Leafs games are split between Sportsnet Ontario and TSN4. Saturday games are on Saturday Night Hockey, 13 of 14 Monday games are on Sportsnet+ only, and 6 games are on Prime Video on Wednesdays.
Which Sportsnet channel has the Oilers and Flames?
Both are on Sportsnet West, which covers the Prairies, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, but not their games in Manitoba or northwestern Ontario. Sportsnet West does not carry their games in Manitoba or northwestern Ontario.
Can I watch the Canadiens in French?
Yes. RDS carries regional Canadiens games in French, and TVA Sports has 32 national French games plus all Canadiens playoff games. Prime’s Wednesday games are also available in French.
Are any NHL games on free TV in Canada now?
No regular-season NHL games air on over-the-air TV in Canada in 2026-27. CBC and Citytv no longer carry games.
How many games does each team play this season?
84, up from 82. It is the first 84-game season since 1993-94, running from September 29, 2026 to April 10, 2027.
What internet speed do I need to watch hockey on IPTV?
As a yardstick, Netflix recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p and 15 Mbps for 4K on its own service. Leave headroom for everyone else in the house, and use a network cable to the TV device if you can, because Wi-Fi at the TV is the usual weak point.
Disclosure: we run BuyIPTV.ca, an IPTV service for Canadian households. Schedules, rights and prices come from announcements by the NHL, Rogers, Amazon, Quebecor and TSN, and from Canadian press coverage, checked on September 29, 2026. Broadcasters change schedules during the season, so confirm a specific game on the broadcaster’s own listings.
